Michael Sheen Interview
The actor: Versatile Welsh performer Michael Sheen, who’s apparently following in the footsteps of fellow Brits like Michael Caine and Judi Dench by seemingly never turning down a role. He’s taken leading roles in highbrow, awards-bait fare like The Queen and Frost/Nixon, but can also be seen hamming it up as a werewolf leader in the Underworld trilogy, a vampire lord in the Twilight movies, a rakish sybarite in Tron: Legacy, and so forth. At least he always seems to commit to the serious roles, and have a lot of broad fun in the more ridiculous ones. But he’s more about commitment than fun in his latest, Beautiful Boy, a painful, poignant drama in which he and Maria Bello co-star as the struggling parents of a college boy who kills 21 classmates before turning the gun on himself. As always, Sheen gives a terrific, intense performance as a father and husband who’s falling apart.

MS: That’s a character I just find really, really fascinating. I’m a big fan of vampire movies generally, and that sort of tradition of characters. So being able to have my own take on a character, and being someone who taps into all the things that really frightened me when I was a kid, like Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Blue Meanies in Yellow Submarine, and [Laurence] Olivier’s Richard III on film. All these characters really stayed with me and disturbed me in some way, and yet sort of thrilled me. That’s what I always tend to draw on when I play that character. And also, the level of excitement and passion that the audience has. My own daughter is a big fan of the Twilight stories, the books. So that’s the other thing—it’s the first time I’ve done something my daughter actually actively had an interest in.

Summit Statement on Breaking Dawn at Comic Con
Summit Entertainment just issued the following press release:
For the fourth year in a row, Summit Entertainment will provide the Comic-Con® International audience with a unique, interactive booth experience featuring films from the studio’s upcoming slate, including an action adventure update of the beloved THE THREE MUSKETEERS, the alien invasion thriller THE DARKEST HOUR with effects from visionary filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, and the highly anticipated THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1.
Those who stop by will be able to speak live via phone with select actors and filmmakers from Summit films, as well as participate in contests and giveaways. The authors of three novels that Summit Entertainment is bringing to life on the big screen will also complete autograph signings at the booth.
§ Erin Morgenstern is the author of NIGHT CIRCUS, a novel about 19th century teenage illusionists.
§ Isaac Marion is the author of WARM BODIES, in which an existentially tormented zombie begins an unlikely romance with the girlfriend of one of his victims. Jonathan Levine is attached to direct, with Nicholas Hoult (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS) and Teresa Palmer (I AM NUMBER FOUR) attached to star.
§ Veronica Roth is the 22-year-old author of DIVERGENT, which launched on the New York Times best-seller list. In the dystopic future of DIVERGENT, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to a particular virtue: honesty, selflessness, bravery, peacefulness, or intelligence.
In addition to Summit’s booth presence at Comic-Con®, the studio will also host one of the first panels of the day in Hall H on Thursday, July 21st dedicated to THE TWILIGHT SAGA franchise. Fans interested in the story’s final chapters will be shown exclusive footage from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN – PART 1 and be treated to a filmmaker and cast Q&A session providing details on the first half of the epic two part finale, in theatres November 18, 2011.

“Among smaller studios, Lionsgate, which won strong results last year for “The Expendables,” will be back; and Summit Entertainment will stage a panel for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1.”
The bigger question is which date will they be there? Our money is on Thursday because that is what they have done the last two times that they were there.
