Nina Dobrev has claimed that The Vampire Diaries is indebted to The Twilight Saga.
While attending the 2011 MTV Movie Awards, the 22-year-old actress spoke to MTV News about The Vampire Diaries, stating that the CW series has thrived on the success of Twilight.
"I think that we're all really happy for each other," Dobrev said when asked if she felt a kinship with the Twilight stars. "I'm very happy that they exist because we exist because of them. Their success is our success."
The actress went on to admit that she laments the fact that The Twilight Saga is coming to its conclusion.
"I'm kind of sad the movies are almost over," the Bulgarian star said.
Dobrev previously claimed that the third season of The Vampire Diaries is a "blank slate", claiming that the show will feel entirely different now that Stefan (Paul Wesley) has gone to the dark side.
Dobrev recently praised the show's executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec for managing to make fans want Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena to get together in spite of Damon's past behavior.
The Vampire Diaries returns in the fall on The CW.
